Tomatoes? Blech. It’s All Subjective.

I’m an adult now. Seriously, it’s been official for a while, though I don’t always act like it. So that means my taste in food should mature, right? No more Lucky Charms, hello Raisin Bran. Hmmm… maybe not.

No matter how many times I eat with my family, my mother and mother-in-law manage to point out (in feigned surprise) my dislike for a particular food. I don’t like tomatoes, but I will use ketchup and I like most salsas. They don’t get that those are completely different. Tomatoes have a consistency that activates my gag reflex. So if you don’t want to see me heave or hurl at the dinner table, then don’t force tomatoes on me.

I also have an extreme dislike for cilantro and blue cheese. It seems that anytime I’m at a restaurant with family, and they order something with blue cheese, it always gets in my food. Blech. I’m told those foods are flavorful and that I’m missing out. Um…nope. I’ve tried them. I get teased a lot for those. It’s usually in fun, so it’s fine.

My friend tried to sell me on the idea that our tastes change every 7 years. That something she hated 7 years ago, she is ok with now. So maybe I should try tomatoes again? Nope! Nice try, but I’m on to you. She totally wanted to see me gag.

What I find flavorful? Coffee, chocolate, Crème brûlée, sweet tea, Rutabegoz Chicken Salad, Hawaiian Kaluha pork with rice, Corn Beef and Cabbage… ok, I’m getting hungry now.

Not everyone is a fan of chocolate. I frequently tease someone I know because she doesn’t like chocolate but she loves wine. How could anyone not like chocolate?! lol

Are there foods that you love or ones you can’t stand?

It’s all subjective.
