Passacaglia – music composed in slow triple time, often repeating the same or similar phrase.

In the episode Kobol’s Last Gleaming from the television series, Battlestar Galactica, the Shape of Things to Come was part of the running theme in “Passacaglia”. True to the style of passacaglia, it’s in 3/4 time and aids in conveying the emotions felt by the characters within the episode. For example, during Baltar’s vision when the first humanoid Cylon is revealed, the first of many that would ended up chasing the human race from Earth.

As somber as it sounds, the music is relaxing to me.  So I’m taking a moment…
